Three ordinary women with little money, busy lives and no experience producing a cross country tour come together to plan the journey of a lifetime. 27 virtual strangers board a bio-diesel bus touring 8 cities hit by violence in as many days to spread the word about The Department of Peace initiative.

United by a hope for a more peaceful world and a clearer understanding of what that means for themselves individually, these 27 people leave home, family and jobs. Overcrowding, ill fated planning, an erratic bus driver and a broken bathroom test the limits of patience and peace aboard this bus fueled by good intentions and a lot of heart.

City after city, these peace pilgrims are saved from in fighting, a waning faith that anyone will show up to see them and mutiny by the receptions they receive across the country. Whether greeted by a parking lot filled with belly dancers, drummers and liberal locals gathered in a welcome peace parade in Dallas or delighted by the unexpected warm reception of 500 parishioners in a Christian congregation in Oklahoma City, this traveling band of peace pirates gathers strength at each stop.

Touching over 1000 individuals by the time they leave DC to head back home no one who boarded that "little bio-diesel bus that could" will ever be the same. Armed with a deeply personal definition of peace, the truck stop wisdom of their fellow citizens and the empowerment of taking action our heroes teach us that we can indeed make a difference, one everyday person at a time.

Amy Brenneman, Frances Fisher, Ed Asner, Wendy Malick and Jim Pickens along with 20 other high profile performers join the cause by welcoming the bus home in grand fashion thereby reaching a wider audience.
